Community Groups

Words of Hope Africa Community Groups are small groups of widows that meet regularly in local villages to encourage one another. The purpose of these community groups is to

Teach sustainable living practices.

Once a community group decides what income-generating project is best for their particular context, a WOHA staff person trains them on how to implement that project. Some of the projects that groups have undertaken include soap-making, basket weaving, piggery, and passion fruit projects.

Educate on how to care for the sick and dying.

One way in which we educate widows is through conducting medical clinics. These clinics are organized and run largely with the help of nurses and other medical staff from the local medical college in Mbarara.

Pray with those who hurt.

We believe God answers prayer. There is perhaps no better way in which God provides hope to those in need than through the prayers of his saints. Groups gather to share their requests with one another and present them to God. WOHA staff are also engaged in praying for those who are hurting due to physical, mental, and spiritual suffering.
